How it Works

Use our free, convenient and insured shipping options

  • Get a free Mail-In Kit that contains a prepaid shipping label, durable poly-mailer bag, and closet clean out guidelines. It typically takes 5-10 business days for our Trade-in Kit to reach you via USPS depending on your location in the U.S.

  • To send in your Trade-in items, please use the prepaid UPS shipping label included in your Trade-in Kit, and drop your package off at your nearest UPS office.

  • If you prefer to use your own packaging, instead of the Trade-In Kit, simply download and print out a prepaid UPS label and affix it to your package for shipment.

There are absolutely no costs or fees. We never charge for shipping and there are no hidden fees associated.

This is NOT consignment. We make you an upfront offer as soon as we receive your items. There is absolutely no waiting. You’ll be able to view, accept or decline your offer directly via your Material World Account Page, and in My Trade-Ins section.

It takes our buying team up to 15-21 business days to process and price your items once they have been delivered to our facility.

If it has been over 10 business days since you received the initial receipt email, please be sure to check your promotions, spam, and trash folders. Occasionally, our emailed offers land in folders outside of your inbox.

We strive to offer the best give back for your items! Brand, category, style, and condition all play a role in our pricing decisions. Our core method is a dual process based on data collected from across the competitive resale market as well as the trained eyes of our expert merchandisers.

Absolutely not! You may trade-in as few or as many items at a time, and as frequently or infrequently as you wish to do so. There are no extra fees or shipping charges involved.

The mailer bags included in our Trade-in Kit usually fit ~30 clothing items, but you are more than welcome to request multiple kits or use your own box and the prepaid shipping label to send more items.

Yes! Our referral program lets you earn 10% commission on your referral's Trade-in values for a year. Your friend will earn an additional $25 on her first Trade with Material World. No amount is taken out of their offer. The commission you receive is entirely separate. Your referral commission will be automatically added to your next Trade-in redemption. To refer a friend, log in to your account and look under Referrals and share your Promo Code or Unique Invite Link to your friends.

Our Trade-in kits are sent via USPS. It typically takes 5-7 business days for them to arrive, depending on geographical location.

It takes 15-21 business days from receipt of your package for our expert merchandising team to review and price your items. Once your offer is complete, you will receive an e-mailed notification with a link to review your offer in your Material World account. Simply follow the provided link or login to your account to view and enter your offer selection.

If it has been over 7 business days since you received the initial receipt email, please be sure to check your promotions, spam, and trash folders. Occasionally, our emailed offers land in folders outside of your inbox.
Still nowhere to be found? No worries! You can log in to your Material World account, and click on My Trade-Ins to review, accept or decline your offers.

We’re glad you like our service and want to share it! We make it easy for you to refer your friends. By logging into your Material World Account and selecting Referral, you can easily share your personalized promotion code. You can choose to invite your friends with your code by sharing the link on Email, Facebook and Twitter. Your friend(s) will receive an additional $25 on their offer and you will earn in return a 10% commission on each of their completed Trade-in's for a year!

Once you receive your referral, click on the provided link to create your account and enter your promotional code in the required field. To start a Trade-in, request a Free Trade-in kit directly from your account or download a prepaid shipping label. Easy as that! To thank you for joining Material World, we'll add an extra $25 to your offer once you complete your first Trade-in with us. You are one step closer to evolving to the wardrobe of your dreams!

Once we send your offer, you will have 10 days to make your selection, and either accept or decline our offer. If we don’t hear back from you within 10 days, your offer will be automatically declined and we will ship your items back to you.

A prepaid shipping label is a great option if you want to get started faster and use your own packaging. Simply log into your account to download your label!

What We Accept

We add new brands every month. If you have any questions about acceptance policies, please email us or call us at 866-674-5842.

We do not accept:

  • Any items not from our accepted brand lists.
  • Children's, Swimwear, Leggings, Tees, Jerseys, Accessories, Vintage
  • Items with defects. View our Quality Standards Guide for more information
  • Items that have been altered
  • Items that you would not be comfortable giving to a friend as a gift

If you follow all of our Brands and Quality Standards Guide, the chances of us accepting your items will be very high.

Think about what you'd gift to a friend - that should be the gauge for deciding what to Trade-In. No stains, rips, odors, or missing parts.

You'll be notified by email to review your offer once made by our team of expert buyers. You can access your offer(s) directly from your Material World account. Simply log-in and click on My Trade-Ins to view, accept or decline your offer(s).

It's your choice. Donate it or have it returned free of charge.

Option A - Donate to Charity:

  • Help a disadvantaged family by donating to Housing Works.
  • Your clothes find a new appreciative and meaningful home.
  • Receive a tax deduction when you file. You'll be able to download it directly from your Material World account page.
  • Your closet has room for new fashions.

Option B - Returned To You Free of Charge:

  • Shipping for returns is also on us.
  • Return some, donate others! You have total control.

Shipping and Insurance

  • Get a free Trade-In Kit that contains a prepaid UPS shipping label, durable poly-mailer bag, and closet clean out guidelines. It usually takes 5-7 business days for our Trade-In Kit to reach you via USPS depending on your location in the U.S.

  • Skip the kit and get an electronic UPS pre-paid shipping label sent directly to your email. Download, print this label and affix it to a box from home.
    Please allow 3-5 business days transit time for your items to reach us. Your items will then be processed within 7-10 business days of receipt.

Yes! Shipping is always free. This includes shipping to us and any returns you may have.

There is no need to include any additional paperwork in your shipment. As long as you use the UPS prepaid shipping label we provided, we will be able to track your package and account for all your items. We do provide an optional packing list for customers who prefer listing out their items.

We work closely with FEDEX/UPS and keep a close eye on our incoming packages. Once they arrive, we will send you an email confirming the receipt of your items.
You can also login to your account and click on My Trade-Ins to check for status updates.

If your package is lost and indicated as such on the tracking information, we will compensate you of the items’ market resale value up to $300. This applies to any trade-in packages or packages shipped back to you after a trade-in. Yes, we insure all packages. If the tracking information indicates a package is lost or has an incomplete delivery status, whether in transit to our facility for a Trade-In or during a return, Material World will provide compensation of the lost package’s market resale value.

My Account

A password helps protect your account security when you log in to your Material World account.

If you forgot your password, enter the email address used to create your Material World account in this field. You’ll receive a reset password email directly in your inbox in a few minutes! Be sure to check your spam or trash folders if the email isn’t in your main inbox folder.

To view your Pre-Owned transaction history, log into your account at www.materialworld.co, and select Purchases.

To view your FTC card transaction history, log into your account at www.materialworld.co, and select My Card.
In case of a refund, please allow for an extra couple of hours for the refund to be processed back onto your card.

Once your offer is completed and ready for review, it will be sent directly to your Material World Account in the Trade-in section. You can either choose to Accept the Offer as is, or review the details to Accept, Return or Donate your items. All up to you!

If you are unhappy with our offer or simply changed your mind, you can easily reject the offer. You can do this by viewing our offer in your Material World Account in the Trade-in section. Choose to view the details of your offer and select “Return” or “Donate” . If you choose to return your items, we will ship your items back to you. By choosing to donate your items, your donations will be sent to our charity partner Housing Works.

Once you Trade-in with us and have accepted our offers, your earnings will total to represent your Lifetime Earnings. This reflects your overall earnings from all of your Trade-ins. You can view your Lifetime Earnings in your Material World Account in the Balance section.

To view the full list of past Trade-in's, log into your Material World account and click on “My Trade-in's”. You’ll be able to review each Trade-in offer by clicking on the Trade-in #.

You can activate or deactivate our mobile alerts directly in your Material World account, in “My Settings” and by ticking or unticking the box “Receive Mobile Alerts”.
Our mobile alerts will allow you to obtain real time notifications on your offer and returned items status.

Payment Methods

If you suspect an error, have questions about a transaction or want to dispute a transaction, contact us as soon as possible at info@materialworld.co or at 1 (800) 825-4902.

You can redeem your earnings in cash or shopping credit. Once you accept our offer, choose to apply your credit towards shopping your Material Box [with a 10% giveback to use for your next purchase] or by cashing out to your PayPal account, with a 3% deduction fee. You will be able to transfer or cash out the amount of your choice.

Choosing PayPal is an easy, convenient way to redeem your Trade-In earnings as cash! Accept our offer and choose to “Cash Out” with the PayPal option in your Balance section. Once you confirm the amount you would like to transfer, you will be redirected to PayPal. Keep in mind, a 3% deduction will apply to your Balance amount when choosing this payment option.

You can check your Account Balance by logging into your Material World Account and selecting Balance.This will show your current redeemable Balance, as well as your total Lifetime Earnings from previous Trade-In’s.

Fashion Trade-In Card

We dissolved our Fashion Trade-in Card program on March 31, 2018 and will no longer offer this service as a payment method for trade-in's. You will not be able to use your Fashion Trade-in Card or any related services. We recommend to protect your card and to prevent identity theft to please make sure to destroy all cards under your account.

Donations

We send all donations to our partner Housing Works, a local charity committed to ending the crises of AIDS and homelessness.

Absolutely! You can download and print your tax receipt via the Donations section of your Material World Account. If you’re unsure what value to assign each item, you can either use the initial offer amount or attribute the value yourself, or use our quote estimator tool to obtain an estimated resale price range.

You will be able to download your receipt directly from your Material World account, by clicking on Donations.

Getting Styled

Fill out your Style Profile so your stylist can get a sense of your personal style, budget and fit. Your personal stylist will handpick 5 curated pre-owned designer items just for you based on your preferences.

Yes! We match you up with your personal stylist based on the style preferences you choose on your Style Profile. We want to make sure we curate the perfect box, which is why we find you the perfect stylist.

Absolutely! Your stylist would love to hear what they got right, or what they can do better for your next Box. You can let your stylist know your feedback on your Checkout Form and send them an email to stylist@materialworld.co.

We know your style is gonna change over time, with the change in seasons, or maybe you have an event coming up. No worries, we make it easy! You can edit your Style Profile in your account to have your next Box meet all your needs. Update your preferences through Steps 1-4 and click SUBMIT on Step 4. Your stylist will use any style updates for your next Box!

We carry pre-owned designer brands that range from rag & bone to Isabel Marant to Gucci. Check out the brands we would include in your Box here. You’ll let your stylist know your favorite brands on your Style Profile and they will find you items that match your style best!

Currently, Material Box is offered for women over 18+ years old. We currently have the majority of our inventory in sizes 0-12 in clothing. We do offer other items such as bags, shoes and accessories if we are unable to find the right clothing items for your Box. Soon, we will also be able to offer Material Box for men!

Pricing For Box

Our Styling Fee is only $25/monthly, and you’ll get 5 pre-owned designer items at up to 90% off retail!

Our $25 Styling Fee covers free shipping both ways and your personalized styling session. Keep one item and this fee will be applied to your total!

All of the items in your Material Box are one of a kind, unique pre-owned designer items. Prices range anywhere from $55 and up. Your stylist will keep your recommended budget in mind for each item added into your Box!

Yes! Not only will your $25 Styling Fee be applied to your total if you keep just one item, but if you keep all five items you’ll also get 20% off your total!

Yes! You can apply your Material World Balance towards your Material Box at Checkout and earn 10% cash back towards future purchases.

Scheduling My Box

You’ll get styled monthly with your Material Box. Based on the date you sign up, you will receive your next Box exactly one month later.

As soon as your Material Box ships to you, you will receive an email with UPS tracking information so you can keep up to date with your Box! Once you receive your Box, you will have 4 days to try on, keep what you love - send back what you don’t.

If we do not receive your return items or see a carrier scan on your return label after 4 days, we’ll assume you are keeping all 5 items and process your credit card. If you need more time to decide what you want to keep or not, let our team know to extend your deadline at info@materialworld.co.

Each Material Box has a mailer bag and prepaid UPS return label inside to send your items back. Simply put any items you do not wish to keep inside the mailer bag and drop off at your local UPS location.

Yes! We recommend that if you have any items you wish to trade-in with us, to send back with your Material Box return items. Your trade-in will be processed sooner, with a completed offer sent to you in 3-5 business days.

Our Material Box subscription is monthly but you can easily SKIP your next Box. Contact our Material Box team at info@materialworld.co and we’ll pause your subscription for a month.
